Melita Garza

About

Melita Garza received her Ph.D. in journalism and mass communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a Roy H. Park fellow, and was nominated for the Dean’s Distinguished Dissertation Award. Melita Garza was awarded the national Margaret A. Blanchard Dissertation Prize for the outstanding doctoral dissertation from the American Journalism Historians Association. Currently, Melita Garza serves at Texas Christian University as an Associate Professo. Here, she has received the Junior Faculty Summer Research Program Award, as well as the TCU Research and Creative Activities Committee Grant.

Dr. Garza’s career has taken her from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York, where she has written and edited for a variety of media outlets. These include the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and Bloomberg LP. She’s also worked as a reporter at The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and in London at McKinsey & Co., where she was an editor for the McKinsey Quarterly.

Dr. Garza’s professional interests have centered around media history, business journalism, and Latino culture and immigration. In her spare time, she enjoys staying active with golf, yoga, and gourmet cooking.
